Steve Black Biography

Steve Black is a current City Councillor and former Mayor of the City of Timmins, presently serving in his third term in municipal government.  Throughout his public service, Steve has been a strong advocate for recreation, quality of life, community safety, and economic development.  He is also a firm believer in the importance of strong representation for Northern Ontario, actively supporting efforts to influence provincial and federal policies and programs that address the unique needs and opportunities of northern communities.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University.  Professionally he serves as Director of Business Development, Marketing & Community Relations for Dumas Contracting Ltd, one of Northern Ontario’s largest underground mining contractors.

With Ontario and Canada placing a renewed emphasis on the development of critical minerals Steve brings a valuable combination of technical education, private-sector leadership, and municipal governance experience.  His background has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the economy, workforce, and infrastructure challenges facing Northern Ontario.  His experience positions him to be a strong and effective advocate on the Board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, ensuring Northern Ontario’s interests are well represented in provincial and federal discussions and policy making decisions.
