Fred Mota Biography

Fred was first elected to Municipal council in October of 2014. In 2018 Fred was elected as Mayor for the Municipality of Red Lake and was re-elected as Mayor in 2022. He currently represents its population of approximately 5000 people.

Fred has resided in Red Lake for the past 24 years and has served in many capacities with volunteerism and community events. In 2018, Fred retired at the early age of 55 from his career as a mental health and addiction therapist with our local hospital to serve as Mayor. He has developed many positive relationships with provincial ministers and First Nation chiefs and communities for the betterment of local residents and surrounding neighbors.

Fred sits on many boards and committees such as the Community Health Care Committee, Truth and Reconciliation Committee, Red Lake Fall Classic, Kenora District Services Board, Vice President of the Kenora District Municipal Association, Vice President of the Northern Ontario Municipal Association and Board of Director with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Northern Caucus.

Fred and his wife Crystal have been married for 33 years. They have two children Madison, a Registered Nurse and Kacie who is currently enrolled at Lakehead University.
