Competing Rights: What You Need to Know!
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and Hicks Morley are offering AMO members important training on a matter we know has been a point of focus and at times, contentious at council tables across Ontario: competing human rights.
As elected officials, you often face complex issues that seem to pit rights of one group against the rights of others. What do you do when faced with this? AMO and Hicks Morley designed a training that will help you negotiate these sensitive situations including what you, as an elected official, need to do to fulfill your human rights obligations.
This 3-hour virtual event is focused on the perspective and realities of elected officials and will fulfill the following learning objectives:
- Build your understanding of the purpose of the Ontario Human Rights Code
- Provide an overview of the Competing Rights Framework (what does it mean and how to apply it)
- Important considerations for municipalities
- Discussion on Hot Topics
- Interactive opportunities for questions and answers.
The Trainer
AMO is pleased to invite its members to join Njeri Damali Sojourner-Campbell, Associate with Hicks Morley for this training.
Ms. Damali Sojourner-Campbells’ work is focused on employment, labour, and human rights in Hicks Morley’s Toronto office. In her role, she also provides strategic advice and representation before administrative tribunals and courts as well as legal advice to clients on complex equity and human-rights-related matters.
