Chris Gerrits Biography

Chris Gerrits is a lifelong resident of the Township of Amaranth in Dufferin County. He first ran for his local council in 2014, not because he was unsatisfied with the council at the time, but in order to give back to the community where he grew up. Chris is a Professional Engineer that has spent the last 25+ years working on municipal water infrastructure projects, both as an engineer as well as 15 years spent working with the family well drilling business.

During his 12 years on Township Council Chris has spent time as a member of council, deputy mayor and currently holds the role of mayor. Chris is proud that, during his time as mayor, the Township of Amaranth and the Town of Grand Valley co-hosted the International Plowing Match. This was the first time that the event was hosted by local municipalities. Additionally, Chris has served as Chair of local fire boards, recreation centre boards, the local joint water management board in addition to currently being on three Source Protection Committees.

Chris has been on every committee in Dufferin County over the last 8 years on county County chairing the Infrastructure and Environmental Services Committee, the Dufferin County Forest Committee and the first version of Transit Working Group. Chris has also spent time on the Health & Human Services Committee and the General Government Services Committee. He has also been Dufferin County's representative on the SWIFT Board for the last 8 years and currently serves as Vice Chair.

Chris was on the County Caucus of the AMO Board from 2022 - 2024 and is currently on the LAS Board where he assisted in the Municipal Service Corporation Pilot Study. In his spare time Chris also participates as a Board Member of Community Living Dufferin which helps adults with developmental delays live independently in the community and has been working the Canada's Ambassador to Ukraine on providing technical support to rebuild critical water and wastewater infrastructure across the country.
